CATCHING MY EYE

Written by Molly Kennedy

If eyes are windows to the soul
What do my windows reflect?

If I fixate on the past
Do I see my failures
Years of entitlement
Using the world to comfort me
Selfishness

Or do I see
My Jesus
Saving the day
Pulling me out of the riptide
And setting me in the flowing water

If I focus on my present
Do I dwell in the weariness
The moments that drag me down
Survival mentality
Busyness

Or do I see
My Jesus
Who is always good
Who brings me into spacious places
Because he delights in me

If I look to the future
Do I see uncertainty
Fear for loved ones
A world unraveling
Unease

Or do I see
My Jesus
Who knows the beginning from the end
Who knows my first day and my last
And every sparkling detail in between

And so…
I look up
Up to the mountains
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord.
He watches over my life
Now
Then
Forevermore

For His eyes
Range throughout the earth
To strengthen those
Whose hearts
Are committed to him

The windows to my soul
I fling them open
And let in the fresh cool air
Of the morning

I turn my eyes toward my Jesus
Fix my eyes not on what is seen
But on what is Unseen

His eyes turn toward me
Laser focus
He winks
My breath catches
And my view readjusts
